PIA flight makes 'emergency landing' at Karachi airport
A Dubai-bound Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight made an emergency landing at the Karachi International Airport due to a technical fault, ARY News reported, quoting well-informed sources.According to sources in aviation, the PIA flight PK-283 made an emergency landing after an indication of fire in the cargo compound.The PIA flight with 170 passengers on board was safely landed at the Karachi airport by the pilot.Earlier, on August 27, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 cargo plane en route from Addis Ababa city to Ahmedabad, India, made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.Read more: PIA flight makes ’emergency landing’ at Jeddah AirportThe plane landed in Karachi after it failing to land at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.According to aviation sources, the plane attempted to land in Ahmedabad but was unable to do so due to unknown reasons.The Air Traffic Control (ATC) instructed the pilot to perform a go-around at 1,500 feet. Unable to land, the pilot diverted the flight, ET 3644, to Karachi.

Pakistan issues new policy for citizens travelling abroad on visit visas
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) have introduced a new policy aimed at preventing Pakistani citizens from overstaying illegally in foreign countries.As part of this initiative, visit visa holders are now required to book return tickets on the same airline.This measure was introduced to curb the practice of individuals traveling abroad on visit visas with no intention of returning to Pakistan.Key requirements of new policy: Mandatory Return Ticket: Visit visa holders must book a return ticket on the same airline to be allowed to board their flight. Same PNR Number: Round-trip tickets must have the same Passenger Name Record (PNR) number. Airline Compliance: The FIA and Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority have directed airlines to refrain from issuing boarding passes to passengers who do not meet these requirements.The new policy specifically focuses on Pakistani citizens traveling to popular destinations such as Dubai, Malaysia, Bangkok, and other countries on visit visas.Authorities will closely monitor these routes to prevent individuals from slipping away and staying illegally in the host country.The government's primary objective is to ensure that Pakistani citizens comply with visa regulations and do not engage in illegal activities abroad.The FIA and Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority have begun notifying airlines of the new policy, and it is expected to be strictly enforced.Travelers are advised to ensure they meet the requirements before booking their flights to avoid any issues during check-in or boarding.

Sindh CM, others acquitted in Nooriabad Power Plant reference
ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Tuesday acquitted Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other accused in Nooriabad Power Project reference, ARY News reported.The court, comprises of accountability judge Nasir Javed Rana, granted an application of the Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking withdrawal of the reference.Murad Ali Shah along with all other accused acquitted in accountability reference.Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi appeared on behalf of the accused.Sindh CM earlier challenging the reference sought his acquittal.Citing the Nooriabad chief minister said the project's approval was given by the provincial government pleading that the case of abuse of authority cannot be filed against him.Murad Ali Shah was facing charges of the power abuse in disbursement of funds for energy-related projects in the province.NAB alleged that public funds worth billions have been embezzled for Nooriabad Power Company and Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company.Murad Ali Shah was among 17 persons nominated in the graft reference by the NAB.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday reiterated his party's support for the formation of constitutional courts.Addressing the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged lawyers to acknowledge constitutional courts as mandated by the Constitution, stating, "If you don’t accept the constitutional courts, you should leave the practice."“After the struggle of 30 years, we have decided to form a constitutional court,” he said, adding his struggle for the constitutional amendment was not for the current chief justice, Qazi Faez Isa. "Your agenda could be a person-specific, not mine," he added.The PPP leader highlighted that Article 63(A) was drafted by his party, and they understand its implications better than anyone. Punjab announces Intermediate Part-I results: check here

WATCH: Huge sinkhole swallows three vehicles in Lahore

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) Tuesday formed a 'new larger bench' to hear review petition regarding interpretation of Article 63-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, ARY News reported, citing sources.The decision was reportedly taken during a meeting of Practice and Procedure Committee headed by CJP Justice Qazi Faez Isa.CJP Isa and Justice Ameenuddin Khan awaited the arrival of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who did not attend or provide notice of his absence, the sources said and added that Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan was added to a five-member bench after Justice Munib Akhtar withdrew himself.The new bench will be led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and it includes Justices Ameenuddin, Jamal Mandokhel, Mazhar Alam Miankhail, and Justice Naeem Afghan. SHC adjourns hearing of appeals in Murtaza Bhutto murder case
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday heard appeal against acquittal of accused in Murtaza Bhutto murder case, ARY News reported.The high court heard appeals of the state and Noor Muhammad, a servant of Murtaza Bhutto in the murder case.Defence lawyers informed the bench, comprises of Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, accused former police officers Wajid Durrani and Rai Tahir have been ailing and could not appear in hearing of the case.The lawyer of Shoaib Suddle, another accused in the case, told the court that the Supreme Court has given an assignment to his client. "He will not appear in the court, if the supreme court has delegated him an assignment," the court questioned."Some accused of the case, Shahid Hayat, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, Agha Mohammad Jameel and Masood Sharif have died," lawyers told the court.The high court expressed resentment over non-compliance of the SSP East and issued show-cause notice to him over failing to submit report about the expired accused of the case."The appeals in Murtaza Bhutto murder case have been pending since 2010," Justice Phulpoto observed.The high court bench adjourned further hearing of the appeals until November 07.Mir Murtaza Bhutto’s personal servant Noor Muhammad had filed appeal in the high court in year 2010 against acquittal of the accused in the high-profile killing in a police encounter near Do Talwar in Karachi on September 20, 1996, 28 years ago.

Punjab enforces Section 144 in Mianwali ahead of PTI rally

PIA plane suffers tyre burst, all passengers safe
MULTAN: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Dubai to Multan faced a technical issue when all the tyres of the aircraft burst during takeoff. The flight, carrying 172 passengers, was forced to abort its departure due to this unexpected problem.The Airbus A320 was accelerating on the runway when a warning of an engine malfunction was received, said the PIA spokesperson. The captain employed the emergency brake system, bringing the aircraft to a safe halt.However, this sudden braking caused all the tyres to burst, necessitating the immediate transfer of passengers to the airport lounge for their safety.The PIA engineering department dispatched a team from Karachi to Dubai on a flight scheduled for tonight – night between Monday and Tuesday– to address and rectify the technical fault.In the meantime, the management of the national flag carrier has made arrangements for the affected passengers. Some of them will be accommodated on PIA flight PK 204 from Dubai to Lahore tonight, while others will be flown from Sharjah to Multan.Read More: PIA issues clarification on recent KHI-DUBAI flight incidentsIt is pertinent to mention here that the government of Pakistan is going to privatise PIA and in a recent development, the Privatisation Commission has extended the bidding date for the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by one month, pushing it to October 31, 2024, ARY News reported on Thursday.Following the extension, the draft agreement is now set to be signed on October 25, 2024, while the deadline for submitting advance money has been moved to October 28, 2024.The sudden decision to extend the bidding deadline has left companies interested in PIA’s privatisation surprised.Aviation sources warn that this extension could negatively impact the privatisation process.The Privatisation Commission has not provided a clear explanation for the abrupt change, though advance deposits were initially due by September 27, 2024.Despite the extension, all preparations for the bidding were reportedly in place for the original deadline of October 1.A consortium of six private companies, including Blue World City, Air Blue, Arif Habib, Fly Jinnah, Pak Ethanol, and YB Holdings, remains in the race for PIA’s privatisation.

FBR extends income tax returns’ filing date
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced a 14-day extension for submitting income tax returns, moving the deadline to October 14.The decision was taken in a special meeting presided over by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial as the earlier deadline was expiring on September 30.The notification in this regard has been issued and citizens can now submit income tax returns by October 14.Meanwhile, during the meeting, the FBR chairman was briefed on the tax collection in the month of September. It was told that Rs 1106 billion was collected through income tax returns in September surpassing the target of Rs. 1098 billion.Read More: Pakistan to abolish non-filer category, says FBR spoxThe FBR sources said that around 2.9 million taxpayers have filed tax returns until September 28. “Last year, 1.4 million tax returns were submitted up to September 28,” sources added.The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry had demanded an extension of 30 days in filing income tax returns.Atif Ikram Sheikh, President FPCCI has said that there are difficulties to file returns owing to a defective system of the FBR causing delays owing to technical difficulties.FPCCI President said, the FBR must offer attention to the improvement of the tax system alongside of its harsh measures.There are limitations and incapacities in the online system of the FBR and as a result, tax filing system remains cumbersome for the common man. The system needs to be fixed for delays and downtimes, he said.Atif Ikram said only 2.6 million taxpayers have filed tax returns so far, which figure is disappointing.Since July 1st, 2023, over 8,44,000 new taxpayers have been added to the tax net. “An extension in the last date of filing returns could increase the tally of return filers to seven million,” FPCCI President added.

Govt initiates crackdown on illegal gas cylinder shops across Sindh
KARACHI: Following a tragic cylinder explosion in Hyderabad that claimed the lives of 27 individuals, Sindh government has initiated a crackdown on illegal gas cylinder shops across the province, ARY News reported on Monday.The Sindh Home Department issued a directive to all district administrations, ordering immediate action against shopkeepers operating gas cylinders illegally.The department emphasized that gas cylinder shops must not be located in crowded or residential areas and should instead be moved to less populated zones.READ: Hyderabad gas blast death toll rises to 24In a letter to deputy commissioners, the Home Department ordered the relocation of illegal LNG and LPG shops outside city limits and instructed the confiscation of substandard cylinders.The government also mandated that these shops follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the federal authorities to ensure public safety.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Privatisation, Board of Investments and Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has emphasised the importance of ensuring that the privatisation process remains both competitive and successful. In the 225th meeting of the Privatisation Commission Board, chaired by Federal Minister for Privatisation, Board of Investments & Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, a committee for negotiations was constituted to oversee and facilitate the privatisation efforts.The committee decided to form a Negotiating Committee for the privatisation of institutions. Federal Minister for Privatisation Abdul Aleem Khan has directed that the process of privatisation should be completed in the atmosphere of competition and the goal of success be ensured so this process can be ensured as transparent as possible, according to a statement.While presiding over the 225th session of the Privatisation Commission Board, Federal Minister for Privatisation, Board of Investment and Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said that after the privatisation of the institutions marketing and the sales sector of those departments should remain on a high pitch.Read More: Privatisation of PIA by end of October, says Khawaja AsifHe added that these institutions being privatised should be successful in addition to earning revenue for the Government. In the meeting of the Privatisation Commission Board instructions were issued by the Federal Minister to the Department that the advertisements given in the newspapers for privatisation should be made part of the relevant file which is also necessary.He added that legal regulations should be implemented fully in the process of privatisation. In the meeting, issues related to the privatisation of more institutions including the Agricultural Development Bank and Utility Stores were also discussed while the appointment of a Financial Advisor also came under discussion.Apart from this, important decisions were also taken while discussing technical matters in the meeting. The Federal Minister invited all the Members of the Privatisation Commission Board to be more active and participate in the PCB to speed up the process.Briefing the meeting of the Privatisation Commission Board, the Federal Secretary said that all relevant issues have full legal protection therefore all the process is being carried out as per the rules. Members of the Privatisation Commission Board approved various decisions including the proceedings of the previous meeting of PCB.
